Day 1549

Five years to the very day and day of the week since I left Lowlands. Continued wrestling with the Windows 95/CServe conflict. Thought I'd hit on the solution in the afternoon when I compared WINSOCK.DLL dates, but it was a false lead. Rang up M and she said she knew someone at work who'd had the same prob. Rang up Technical Support again and must've worn them out because the woman said the Windows 95 expert would get onto it and ring me back next week.

Rode round to M's in the evening after a particularly exhausting bout of XView manual postscript-to-text conversion. E suggested I could develop parallel C++/XView versions of my project (as I'd thought earlier) and pointed out that even the VB prototype would be CV-able. M pointed out that even XView has to be written in C. Will present their comments to my supervisor on Tuesday.

Rode home, like swimming through cool dark water, I thought.

Well. The last five years have been very instructive. Let's hope there's not too much repetition in the next five, eh?
